AMAZON SUBCOMMITTEE
This working group examines issues related to extractive industries in the Amazon and elevates the voices and concerns of Indigenous Peoples and the region to uphold human rights.
The committee meets on the Second Tuesday of the month from 2:00-3:30 PM. Time of New York, United States (UTC-4). There is frequently an education component to the meeting to assist members learning about what is happening in the Amazon regarding Extractivism in a particular country or region in a country. The group also develops action steps to take in order to assist the people in the Amazon.
The members work closely with the ecclesiastic groups REPAM (Panamazon Ecclesial Network) in Brazil as well as CIMI (Conselho Indigenista Missionário).
The committee in collaboration with REPAM and CIMI conduct workshops during the Indigenous Peoples Forum in April each year.
