According to a recent research by UNICEF and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the frequency of sexual, physical, and emotional violence is among the highest in the world in African nations. In Southern Africa, 80 percent of children endure harsh discipline at home, and on average, 17 percent of women and girls in the region have had forced sex at some point in their lives. There have also been instances of abuse throughout Africa, including domestic and sexual abuse of women and girls, child marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), intimate partner violence, and sexual harassment.
To address this urgent situation, the Dominican Promoters for Justice and Peace in Africa are organizing an online panel discussion on issues of Gender Based Violence. This year, the promoters of justice and peace for the various Dominican families in Africa want to pool resources and energies together to invest in African women.
This webinar is aimed at discussing the effects of this problem, and working towards carrying out some advocacy visits and programmes in different parts of Africa.
