NGO COMMITTEE ON THE WORKING GROUP ON GIRLS

Ensuring girls have a place at the table

WGG is a coalition of non-governmental organizations working for girls, with girls. Our members actively participate in Committees, planning events, advocating with missions, publishing newsletters, ensuring girls have a place at the table, and much more.

Working Group on Girls helps elevate the voices and needs of girls globally. It supports girls’ full and equitable participation in international meetings and events, and it allows girls to advocate on their own behalf in local and global arenas.

The Working Group on Girls presented a Girls Virtual Space that allowed girl delegates to come together and connect, discuss, and share ideas, initiatives, and interests throughout the 65th Commission on the Status of Women. The Working Group on Girls, Girl Advocates hosted three workshops, as well as four debrief sessions that created a community for all girls attending the virtual CSW.

Our girl advocates discuss the role of girls in advocacy work to advance the full participation of women and girls in public life, eliminating gender-based violence, and achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

If you have an interest in promoting girls in society here is a place to do it.  The Working Group on Girls at the United Nations meets the First Thursday of each month at 2:00 PM. Time of New York, United States ‎(UTC-4). At present the group is meeting virtually via zoom.

As WGG plans our celebration for the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl, October 11, 2021, we are calling on girls around the world to share their advocacy work and lived experience. This year’s theme is centered on the digital divide.

Leading up to and during our annual Girls Speak Out we invite you to share the voices of Girls through their poetry, short videos, or photos of themselves on social media. If you know Girls between the ages of 14-18 who would be interested in doing this, please ask them to send their poem, picture, or video to me at ngo@domlife.org. I will then post it on the Dominican Leadership Conference Facebook, Tweeter, and Website as a way to share the voices of Girls.

You may also visit IDG International Day of the Girl Website for more information.

If you want to foster the voices of young girls in your school and assist them in engaging global conversations on various topics, please join the Working Group on Girls.
