Preaching with One Voice: The Path Ahead for Asia-Pacific

Sr. Maria Luz Mission has been elected to serve another term as the Dominican Sisters International Confederation (DSIC) Asia-Pacific Continental Coordinator. In this interview, she reflects on the growth of the Dominican family and outlines her goals for the upcoming three years.

1.  How has the experience of the past term shaped or changed your personal understanding of the Dominican mission in Asia-Pacific?

The experience of the past term had broadened my personal understanding of the Dominican Mission in Asia-Pacific. The ministry is not just limited in my Congregation, or country, but it covers the whole Asia – Pacific Continent. We have diverse cultures, yet we are a gift to each other, enriching, encouraging, and inspiring each other as one big Dominican Family.
I thank God for the opportunity to serve as Continental Coordinator and for the valuable support of the Sisters.

2.  As you begin these next three years, what is the primary “dream” or goal you hope to see come to fruition for the Sisters in your Continental area?

My primary dream or goal for the Sisters in our Continent is to have an effective communication among us. This would be a great factor to deepen our collaboration, as well as integrating efforts and enhancing unity as women preachers in our Continent.

3.  What are the most pressing challenges or new peripheries where you feel the Sisters are being called to serve in the coming years?

Among the most pressing challenges I observe are the decline in religious vocations and coming to completion, the rapid technological advancements such as the use of Artificial Intelligence, the environmental crisis, and lately the Middle East Conflict.

In the coming years, Sisters maybe called to serve in small communities, working more on justice and peace and digital platforms.
