Dominican Sisters Unite in Rome to Amplify Voice for Justice and Peace
From June 3rd to 7th, 2026, the International Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Promoters and the Dominican Sisters International Confederation (DSIC) Coordinating Council convened in Rome for a strategic meeting. The gathering marked a significant step forward in integrating advocacy for justice and peace directly into the lives and ministries of Dominican women globally.
Reflecting on the gathering, Sr. Jacintha Gracy Miranda emphasized that the meeting served as a crucial platform to strengthen connections between DSIC and JPIC continental coordinators. Rather than operating as separate entities, the event fostered a powerful consensus to function as a unified body. This unity ensures that JPIC is deeply woven into the Dominican identity while listening to the diverse realities of different continents.
The assembly focused on three essential pillars:
- Strategic Alignment: Cultivating collective insights to establish concrete, actionable plans for the next two years leading up to the 2028 Assembly.
- Grassroots Connection: Strengthening networks to ensure global priorities remain firmly grounded in the lived realities of sisters worldwide.
- Shared Vision: Identifying common priorities to respond more effectively to today’s global challenges.
One of the days of the gathering was dedicated entirely to the formation, guided by two seasoned leaders in the field: Sr. Sheila Kinsey, FCJM, who helped participants to define key priorities and determine “what is ours to do” and Sr. Toni Harris, OP who facilitated the afternoon session, beautifully anchoring the work of justice and peace within the core of the Dominican charism.
Hopes for the 2026–2028 Horizon
Looking toward the future, the group have committed to an energized 2026–2028 work plan focused on integrated formation – deepening the understanding of Dominican history while equipping sisters with practical technology and language tools. Additionally, the group aims to bridge geographical gaps through enhanced communication.
“My hope is that the work plan we have established for 2026–2028 will deepen our connections, strengthen grassroots participation, and enable us to respond more effectively to the challenges facing our world today.” – shared Sr. Jacintha.
