Interview with sr. Izide Vecchi, OP – Continental Coordinator for Latin America and Carribean

The DSIC Assembly is getting closer!

DSIC is divided into continental areas, each with its own Coordinator. To better understand the reality of each region, we have interviewed these Coordinators and asked them:

What defines their region and the life of the Sisters there?
What are the biggest challenges they face?
What hopes do they have for the DSIC Assembly in May?

Listen to the interview with Sr. Izide Vecchi, OP, Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean (summary in English below):

What characterizes us is surely the spirituality, for the most part, spirituality of liberation. It is strengthened through shared actions: in studies, formation, and mission. Significant experiences such as fraternal sharing, joint missions, and gatherings as a Dominican family—with sisters, friars, nuns, and the MJD—reinforce our identity as a federation of Dominican sisters. Additionally, the commitment to JPIC and respect for the charism of each congregation are fundamental pillars of our work.

However, we also face specific challenges: Working as a team and strengthening participation in the federation. Defending human rights and becoming more visible, despite restrictions in some countries. Exploring new fields of evangelization and responding to current challenges. Overcoming the limitation of having few sisters for a large amount of work and easing the burden on young sisters due to the structures of their congregations, which limits their participation in common missions.

Despite these challenges, the hope for the DSIC Assembly is clear:

That each sister experiences true sisterhood and solidarity, feeling a sense of belonging to DSIC.
That the theme of the Assembly, widows and midwives, serves as a source of inspiration.

As widows, we have experienced losses: of homes, vocations, and opportunities. But as midwives, we are called to witness the birth of new life. And what a life it is! We are invited to look, understand, and embrace what is emerging, with the same dedication and hope as midwives.

Let us keep walking together!
