Third Sunday of Advent: Reflection by Sr. Ana Gonzalez, OP
The end of the year is upon us and it, so much noise. The sound of jingle bells and catchy familiar songs on speakers, advertisers aiming to get our attention and tell us why their product is it gift for your gift exchange while spreading our schedules thin between work, family, and an abundance of commitments that are piled up to the last couple days in December. Too Much Noise! While many pack their calendars tight with gatherings and celebrations, we are also mindful that within our communities, even among our friends and families, there is a lack of shelter, food insecurity, sickness, and suffering caused by injustice. December, with all its realities, can be overwhelming!
Today as we celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent, we have some very important reminders. We are Catholics and we are still in the season of advent. This season gives us the invitation to slow down, be still, and ground ourselves in the redeeming hope of Emanuel. On this Gaudate Sunday, the Third Sunday of Lent, we light the pink candle and rejoice. Rejoice in knowing that Christmas is near. Rejoice in trusting that through Jesus, we are redeemed and renewed. We are halfway through our pilgrimage to Christmas. Please join me in embracing advent and on this day Rejoice! O Come Emmanuel.
