Widows and Midwives…..Where past and future meet

The Logo for our Assembly communicates a sense of emerging new life, cradled in the hands of both our younger and elder Sisters. The black circle symbolizes both the womb, where new life germinates in darkness; and the tomb, where new life can emerge when we are willing to let go of what holds us back. We rightfully grieve, as widows do, what we seem to have lost. But we know as well that we carry within us the potential for something new and the responsibility to be midwives for the future.

The hands represent our Sisters – the smooth, upper hand our younger Sisters; and the lower, wrinkled hand, our elder Sisters. We are, together, widows and midwives; each responsible for playing her part in bringing to birth the next phase in our lives as Apostolic Dominican Women. The small green branches serve as a reminder that, as always, we are surrounded by signs of hope, if we only have the eyes to see!

The logo was created by sr. Aneesah McNamee.
