U.N. INDIGENOUS PEOPLE FORUM
Next week the UN will host the Indigenous Peoples’ Forum. The Priority Theme this year is: Peace, justice and strong institutions: the role of indigenous peoples in implementing Sustainable Development Goal 16. The links to the week’s events are below.

As co-chair of the Amazon Subcommittee, I would like to share three side events for next week April 20, 21 and 22.
1. On Tuesday 20 April at 10:00 am-11:30 (EDT New York Time)

There will be translation in Spanish, Portuguese and English
2. Wednesday in the afternoon April 21st from 1:00-2:30 PM (EDT New York Time) This event will be a dialogue/conversation between “Indigenous women of the North and the South.” It will be an exchange of spiritual dimensions.

3. On Thursday in the afternhoon April 22nd from 1:00-2:30 PM (EDT New York Time). There will be an exchange between the Ecclesial entities of Pan-amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM) in Brazil and Indigenous Missionary Council (CIMI) in Brazil with the NGO Mining Working Group here in New York. The Mining Working Group is primarily concerned about extractives, e.g. illegal gold mining, deforestation, damns, etc. We hope to learn from the Indigenous regarding their concerns as well as the reality of human rights violations during this the time of COVID
