Living the Season of Creation 2026: experience of the Dominican Sisters of Blessed Imelda in Cameroon
During the Season of Creation, we journeyed together in faith, prayer, and action to answer the ecological call of our time. Guided by the theme proposed by the Laudato Si’ Movement: LIVING WATER. We sought to deepen our relationship with God, our neighbors, and the Earth, living out our charism as messengers of truth, hope, and stewardship.
Throughout the month, our life and ministry were enriched by key communal activities:
Praise and Prayer with Our Local Communities: We gathered in prayer with our local Christian parishes, the students and staff of our school community and groups of young people. Together, we offered special intercessions for our fragile planet, giving thanks for the gifts ofcreation and asking for the grace of ecological conversion.
Raising Awareness and Sensitization: Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching, we held sensitization sessions across our educational and pastoral networks. We highlighted the urgent need to care for our common home, teaching practical ways to reduce waste, respect biodiversity, and cherish natural resources.
Youth Engagement through ‘The Letter’: A powerful moment of reflection occurred when we screened Pope Francis’s landmark documentary, The Letter, for young people. The film sparked deep discussions among the youth about climate justice, environmental degradation, and the vital role the young generation plays in building a sustainable future.
Practical Action: Planting Flowers and Blessing Creation: Combining action with spiritual devotion, we planted flowers around our community and school premises. After planting, we gathered to pray over them, celebrating these small green shoots as tangible symbols of hope, renewal, and our ongoing duty as guardians of God’s creation.
By integrating the weekly Laudato Si’ themes into our daily life and reflection, this month was not merely an event, but a profound renewal of our commitment to love God through caring for His creation. As Dominican Sisters of Blessed Imelda, we carry forward the fruits of this Season of Creation, resolved to let our prayers and actions echo far beyond this sacred season.
