Dominican Month for Peace 2026: Mexico
For the past nine years, the Order has selected a country affected by serious conflict and human rights violations as the focus of the Dominican Month for Peace. Its purpose is to draw the attention of the Dominican Family to the hardships faced by our brothers and sisters in that country. Thus far, we have focused on Colombia (2017), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (2018), India (2019), Ukraine (2020), Venezuela (2021), Myanmar (2022), the Peruvian Amazon (2023), Haiti (2024), and Cameroon (2025).
In this tenth year, 2026, our focus is Mexico, which is also commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Dominican presence and ministry in the country.
The Month for Peace begins on the First Sunday of Advent and provides us with an opportunity to pray for and stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Order who face various challenges. This year, the Month for Peace begins on the First Sunday of Advent, November 29, 2026.
In Mexico, the population faces numerous challenges, including forced disappearances—primarily at the hands of organized criminal groups—and violence against Indigenous peoples, women, girls, and adolescents. Detailed information about these issues is available on Google Drive. The theme of the Month for Peace is: “Mexico: A Country Thirsting for Peace.”
We invite you to:
- Organize pastoral activities and other public events to promote solidarity and offer prayers for the people of Mexico.
- Publicize these activities and invite your communities, the institutions entrusted to your care, and your friends to participate in raising awareness about the situation in Mexico.
In the coming months, webinars will be offered to raise awareness about the situation in Mexico. Simultaneous interpretation will be available in English, Spanish, and French. Further details about the webinars will be provided at a later date. The webinars will be open to the public; therefore, once you receive the information, we ask you to publicize them and invite members of the Dominican Family and your friends to participate.
Materials for the Month for Peace are available on the Order’s website, op.org, under “Dominican Month for Peace 2026.” Additional materials, including reflections on the readings for the Sundays of Advent, will be published in the coming weeks. These materials will be available in English, Spanish, and French. You may download and adapt them to your local context as you consider appropriate.
- We ask you to appoint a coordinator to oversee the Month for Peace activities in your entity.
