Embracing the Prophetic Call of St. Catherine
Happy Feast of St. Catherine!
We reached out to Prioresses who have Saint Catherine as their patroness to share their reflections. We asked them: what is the Saint teaching us at this specific moment in history?
Here is the sharing from Sr. Teresa Nguyen Thi Quynh Giao, O.P., Prioress General of the Congregation Dominican Sisters of Saint Catherine of Siena, Thanh Tam:
Saint Catherine, encouraging her disciples to seek heavenly things, reminds us – her spiritual children- not to remain content with the routines of daily life or ordinary ministries. Rather she calls us to go deeper, to move further, and to serve better for the good of the Church, especially in our ministries of evangelization and education.
In her example, we as missionary disciples – apostolic sisters – are invited to embrace the prophetic dimension of our vocation within the community as promoters of peace. This can be expressed through small yet powerful gestures for peace, such as raising our gentle voices for truth (veritas in caritate), persevering without rebellion, and remaining steadfast in communion. In this way, we strive to build bridges of peace and unity among members and communities, supporting one another to live fully our consecrated life and mission.
Following our patroness, Catherine, we recognize that each word spoken, each action undertaken, and each choice made must flow from love and truth.
