In Solidarity and Prayer with Colombia

We  unite with our Dominican  Friars, Sisters, Laity, youth  and the people of Latin America who are facing the consequences of the recent earthquakes.

On 10 August 2026, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Panama, Ecuador and western Colombia, particularly affecting Chocó and the regions around Cali, Pereira, Manizales and Armenia. There have been many deaths, injuries, people missing, collapsed and damaged buildings, and ongoing rescue operations. In recent weeks, Venezuela has also been dealing with a continuing sequence of earthquakes. 

In this moment of uncertainty, fear and suffering, we express our heartfelt solidarity with all those affected, especially the families who have lost loved ones, homes, or are experiencing distress and insecurity. We remember with particular concern our Sisters, their communities, and all those whom they accompany in their mission.

As one Dominican family, we invite all our Sisters around the world to join us in prayer for Latin America. May our prayer be a source of strength, comfort and hope for those who are suffering. May God protect those who are vulnerable, sustain those engaged in rescue and relief efforts, and grant wisdom and courage to all who are responding to this emergency.

Let us entrust Colombia to the loving care of God, the source of life and hope, asking that the spirit of solidarity, compassion and mutual support may accompany the people during this difficult time and in the days of recovery and rebuilding ahead. 

May our communion as one Dominican family become a sign of hope, compassion and care for our sisters, brothers and our common home.
