Sr. Rosmery Castañeda: the only Dominican Sister with voice and vote at the Synod on Synodality
Participating in the Assembly will be for her “a calling and a sending in these times that our Church is living”.
Sister Rosmery Castañeda, a nun of the Dominican Sisters of Charity of the Presentation, has been selected by Pope Francis to participate -with voice and vote- in the Synod on Synodality, which will begin in Rome on October 3.
An opportunity that, as the religious has assured in an interview on the Congregation’s website, has been for her “a call and a sending in these moments that our Church is living”. In the same way, Castañeda pointed out that this Synod marks the step to “be a missionary Church going out, close, listening, participative, always in dialogue, open to all.
A Synod of hope
“We need to be open without making differences,” he continues. “A poor, humble, inclusive Church where no one is left out. Today the Church urges the presence of women with leadership in many pastoral fronts and in decision making with voice and vote”.
As for her expectations for this synod that is about to begin, the religious said that she has “much hope in what we are going to live as synod mothers and fathers, trusting in the Holy Spirit who is the one who leads and marks every step of the Church”.
